Chinese Gardens in Twin Cities

Chinese Garden at Minnesota Landscape Arboretum

The Chinese Garden at the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum is designed as a place of harmonious beauty that integrates artistry with nature, offering visitors a serene environment for peaceful contemplation and renewal. This garden features a blend of architectural elements, rocks, water, and plants to create an engaging and transformative setting. One of the key features includes a pathway that leads visitors past significant symbols of Chinese culture, such as the peony, known as “the king of flowers” and a symbol of wealth, and a large willow representing purity and healing. The garden is also home to three magnificent rocks symbolizing mountains, a special gift from the Shaanxi Provincial People’s Government in central China, emphasizing the garden’s cultural and international connections.

This initiative is part of a partnership between the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum and the Chinese American community, showcasing the harmonious blend of cultures, friendship, and community. It serves not just as a natural retreat but also as a cultural bridge, inviting visitors to immerse themselves in the beauty of traditional Chinese garden design and symbolism.
