He retired from 3M as Chief Scientist of the Commercial Imaging Department, having made outstanding contributions in the fields of electronic digital printing, optical products, electro-optical copying, inkjet printing, and 3D stereoscopic imaging technology. His work at 3M placed him at the forefront of some of the most transformative imaging innovations of the late 20th century.

After retiring from 3M, Dr. Lee channeled his entrepreneurial spirit into founding Image Ensemble, Inc. and co-founding Vista 3D, Inc., a company dedicated to the development of 3D stereoscopic home theater technology.

Beyond his scientific and business achievements, Dr. Lee has been a pillar of the Chinese American community in Minnesota for decades. He served as President of the Chinese American Association of Minnesota (CAAM) from 1982 to 1983, one of the earliest presidents of the organization. A gifted communicator as well as a scientist, Dr. Lee is widely recognized as a popular science writer, making complex scientific concepts accessible to Chinese-speaking communities both in Minnesota and beyond.

Dr. Lee continues to reside in Minnesota, where he remains an active voice and mentor within the community. At the 2025 CAAM Stanley & Marvel Chong Scholarship Award Ceremony, he delivered the keynote address, encouraging the next generation of Chinese American students to embrace curiosity, multiculturalism, and a spirit of giving back.
